 I was looking for ideas, found this, and had to try it. The original used a separate flash to light the face. In keeping with the spirit of the challenge, I had Jeff hold the egg open slightly, so the light would shine on his face.

When my new neighbor Jeff accepted the dinner invitation, he had no idea he was going to become my next victim...ummmm...model, but he was a very good sport. I had to convert to b&w because the light coming from the flashlight was not a single color. The middle of the beam was purple, the edges were more white. It could have been corrected using HSL, but I didn't have the skill to do a good job.

* Shadow/highlight tool to bring out some parts of the image that were buried in shadow
* Curves layer to get rid of noise in the black areas
* Curves layer to improve contrast
* b&w conversion using channel mixer
* resize
* strong local contrast enhancement using unsharp mask
* slight Smart Sharpen
* save for web

I like this one as a picture. I do have serious doubts about this pic being made using a single lightsource however. Since I am not sure, I will not vote. If you did use a single lightsource, I am pretty curious as to how you did it.

pretty cool, i think the dead space in the center of the shot could have been reduced a bit. nice lighting from the egg and on the face.

the egg looks so beautiful and intriguing, i wonder why didn't you just go for its close-up? in the second round, bumping you up to 8

Good idea. It feels like there is a bit too much space at the bottom. I think the hands should be closer to the bottom right corner to match the face.
