Spent a boring day at a wedding, but the reception was held at a barn that had been entirely built by hand 150 years ago. It was dismantled and reassembled at its present location. I saw the timber and immediately the challenge came to mind of texture. I used no flash and just the natural lighting from the windows near sundown. I shot 24 pics with various changes in settings as I learn the details of my new camera

I would like to see a bit more contrast, good idea though

not enough of this image is in focus. The look and feel of the texture does not come through for me on this one.

Technically this seems well done to me. Unfortunately in a contest of so many images, it doesn̢۪t have an interesting enough feature to separate it from the pack.

I like it, it does well in black and white.

I would've liked to see more depth in focus

it's just a piece of wood - nothing that interesting going on.

This appears quite indistinct - not simply because of the very shallow depth of field bt more because that area within the focal plane doesn't have the quality of light needed to really show the texture. There are areas where the feel ought to be evident, but the distinction between those and the more out of focus areas is small.

Needs better DOF focus to make the texture stonger.

I like the wood, I like the mood, I like the b/w but I don't like the two black "ears" on the top corners. I would have tried a different angle. Good luck.

Classic texture. The bw and white also works well, I think. I'm not finding much of a focal point, though. Perhaps, if there was a rusty nail or something in the picture to give the eyes somewhere to go, besides out the top of the frame, it would be more effective.

DOF is too shallow
