Lit with a Home Depot $8 special (just one!), aluminum foil snoot. Processed from RAW, warmed up the colours a bit. In Photoshop: resized, unsharp mask, a bit of the highlight/shadow routine. Then, levels, curves, photo filter, (all on normal layers), Neat Image. Border, save for DPC. Oh yeah, I sent a shot from our Halloween fog machine at the scene, too.

Yes, I do wish I had a real studio, thanks. The white balance was a struggle, I dunno why I couldn't get rid of the cyan cast. :-/
Thanks for your comments, and I'd especially like to thank whoever gave me that 1 that didn't scrub. |

It seems as if the WB is off. |

color seems a bit off, and reflections/ shadows hint at 2 sources. not accusing you.... |

Could so with a slight cw rotation to squure up you main focal point. The highlights on the black pieces are stronger than on the whites and are a little distracting. Would have been better to prevent the specular highlights occuring and then you could have pushed the tonal range of the whole image without blowing anything out. A high contrast duotone would have been great to see |

hmmm, seems like chess pieces are popular this challenge... one of the better ones, a bit too neat imaged... and the corner angle isnt really working imo. |

The shallow depth of field works well but I'm not sure about the position of the rook as the main subject. |
