Ok, guys, I cheated a little on this one. The horse really isn't in the fog at all. I used a gradient with a layer mask to create the fog around him (including his breath). However, the fog in the background is real. Promise. I know it's kinda cheesy, but it was fun.

pp was pretty simple:
Levels
gradient with mask
Levels again
2nd gradient with mask
resize
usm
save for web

Great effect w the fog creates a nice image..
Would be perfect if all of the horse was in fog..

At first glance (and before I read the comments) I was very impressed. Now that I look at it harder, its strikes me that only part of the horse is in the fog. I would suggest either putting the whole horse in the fog (without foggy breath) or keeping the horse out of the fog but giving it foggy breath (but perhaps only in front of its nostrils, rather than also partially covering its nose). Despite these comments, nice job!

I can imagine it was fun. Think you did a great job. The scene and the colors looks beautiful. Perhaps the breath looks a little artificial.
