The Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg)
(The Bloodiest Day of the Civil War)

Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan launched attacks against Confederate General Robert E. Lee After pursuing Lee's army into Maryland. Lee’s army set up defensive positions behind Antietam Creek.

More men were killed or wounded at Antietam on September 17, 1862, than on any other single day of the Civil War. Federal losses were 12,410, Confederate losses 10,700. Although neither side gained a decisive victory.

The battle gave President Abraham Lincoln the opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which, on January 1, 1863, declared free all slaves in States still in rebellion against the United States. Now the war had a dual purpose: to preserve the Union and end slavery.

Great classic feel to this shot. I really think that if you added a vignetting you really could have enhanced this picture. The tone is great, and contrast is right on. Nice work.

Good capture in that the scene is well played. I like the sepia tones, Im just having a hard time seeing certain details. Maybe a little underexposed??

How fantastically fortuitous that you had a historical recreation society performing for you. The great news is that you took full advantage of this break and have produced a wonderful antique feeling shot which I am sure if you stuck between the pages of a book in a library would cause squeals of excitement and delight

Super conversion and shot
