Shot with flash, imported into lightroom, used only basic editing techniques (bored of tweaking things too much at the minute!!!), made quite contrasty and adjusted levels and curves slightly before resixing to 640 and saving for web at 100kb or so.

I really like this, shadow and all. In fact, this is one of the few instances where I think a shadow really adds to a portrait. Highly underrated IMO.

I guess it's just me, but I kinda like the harsh light and the shadow. You could clone out the shadow (or just paint it out with white) and try Ed's suggestion of really cranking the contrast to get his face even whiter.

Enjoy the massive contrast here; makes one wonder whether taking it further still, to white-out the face almost completely rather than only in certain areas might have further emphasised the fundamental black and white.

I like the stark white.....it gives this an intensity that makes me uncomfortable with that gaze. 7

The pose and composition are fantastic! Nice clothes. The hard front lighting however is not flattering at all.
