 Yup - a flash was used. We had a 420ex on a light stand bounced off an umbrella. At the time all we had was the 420ex so we were attached by a 2 ft cord to allow us control over the flash from the camera. The background was seriously blown and we ended up doing a ton of PP work to balance it out, but well worth the work.

I like how you used the viginetting around her to bring her out from the background. The photo is sharp and her not looking directly at the camera adds to the innocence of the photo.

While the 'tree hugger' shot can be cliche for senior portaits, I'm going to have to say I really like this one. The color are vibrant yet the pose is quiet. The light is very nicely balanced... I'm assuming there was a large reflector or flash since the sun is behind her and acting as a rim light?
