 My first attempt at recreating an image with more dated, moodier colours, all achieved within the basic editing restrictions.

The image started as a RAW conversion run through neatimage. I then gave it a bit of USM before adding hue/sat and levels adjustment layers. A small amount of gaussian blur was applied and I added a fair amount of noise before resizing. Another quick sharpen up then save for web.


Again I'm just taking photos for my own enjoyment and I don't expect to do particularly well, though I hope this will be appreciated by some. I'm very grateful to my friend for modelling for me on the spur of the moment. Though everyone in the background is socialising and enjoying themselves, her thoughts are obviously elsewhere.


POST-CHALLENGE:

Though I wasn't expecting this to score highly, I'm surprised by how bothered people were with the fact she was holding two drinks. I thought people would assume she was waiting for someone, but this obviously went over most voters' heads. I was pleased to get so many comments though, I had been a little disillusioned by low comments in previous challenges. Many thanks to everyone who commented and voted.

I think this would have been good in black and white too. Some might say it could be sharper, but I don't think it would help convey the message in the photo any better.

Suggestions:
- Subject should probably be 'entering' the photo, 'leaving' the photo (face subject towards center of photo) for more interesting composition.
- The camera should have been angled down a bit more to capture more of the surroundings and less of the ceiling, and position the subject so her face is a bit higher in the frame.
- Use a softer focus and shallower depth of field to dramatize her being disconnected.

Been there before :- )

Fit's the challenge nicely, but the big black area to her right kind of swamps the picture a bit. In an ideal world she would have been off centre to the right of the picture - but hey :- )

Fits the challenge well. Is she a lonely double fist drinking lady, or waiting for her friend? Either way she is not part of the crowd in this shot. Nicely seen.

interesting vibe. the only thing that doesn't keep her completely disconnected is the drink she's hold for somebody. Though if she was double fisting different mixed beverages that might put her even farther on the fringe ;)

Unfortunately, the background didn't work out well for this shot. The baloons and streamers seem attached to her head and are distracting.

At least she followed my advice - if you feel awkward and out of place at a party, drink several drinks at a time. :P
