Quite honestly, bug shots never really do much for me, but technically I find this image to be pretty good. I think a little more DOF would have been beneficial. |

ACtually, it is a good macro shot. I like the leaf of the right, but I like hard foundation lines in my shots. I might have preferred the other antennae in the depth of field but that would one of the few things I would change. |

I also would have cropped the leaf on the right. Also not particularly fond of the blown out upper left. The cricket is perfect! 6 from me. |

The details are perfect on the insect, great DOF. I'd have probably been inclined to crop the leaf on the extreme right though. |

I gave this a 6. I thought it was really clear but the glare on the grasshopper is distracting. Also not fond of the right hand side. |

I gave this photo a 6, so was (unusually for me) there with the bulk of DPC voters. In the photos favour, detail is very good with crisp focus and a depth of field suited to the subject; I particularly liked the antennae reaching up into the light. Things that I might prefer different - that the insect was at least partially facing the viewer; that the little 'hands' were also in focus; that the strip of brighter green was not included. With regard the brighter green, I note that you say you liked it and felt it provided a natural border, but for me it somewhat unbalanced the composition and seemed somewhat superlous to the overall photograph. All in all, though, good work. |

I didn't vote on this challenge, but I would have given this picture at least a 7. Focus is very good and I really like the colors. I, also, would like to see a version with the right cropped out. |

I might like to see how this looks with the leaf on the right cropped out. Though it doen't hurt the image IMO, it may give the image more spatial balance. I dunno.....if you try an edit that way, let me know as I'd love to see it. I do love the grasshopper's brilliance! |

The green on the right does indeed provide a very nice frame for this - if it were mine, I'd have left it there, too. EXCELLENT detail and color. There's a nice set of diagonals - one with the stem and the insect, and another behind crossing formed from the bokeh. A very pleasing composition to my eye. Basically I'm at a loss to tell you how this could score higher - I think it's pretty darn good. |

Good detail on the grasshopper, though the light seems unnatural (assuming you used a flash). |

I'd have cropped out the green on the right hand ride. |
