This question is directed toward you but at a lot of people here as well doesn't anyone know how to use their white balance here and a little something like photo shop or a relative of it half of your images would come out a lot better if you thought about what it should look like before you actually tried shooting it may be digital and you can see it but there are more colors in the rainbow than red, yellow, magenta, blue, green, or my favorite cyan. You didn't adjust your exposure light for either the ambient house lamp or the fire place so you just go a blah red image and destory the beauty of the intergrity of this image possibility. Your composition is off for the image as well as correctly exposing your subject another light pulled back from in front of your baby would have brought out the shadow details. I think if you had come at more of a straight approach to your fire place it would have made the composition of your son a stronger element to the photos whole. |

I lke the idea here, but it doesn't really work. The hearth separates the photo into two separate images and nothing really ties them together. The light from the right rear overpowers the light from the fire for shadow direction, which further separates the elements. An additional light on the left would lighten the shadow, and lowering the camera, maybe even putting it on the floor, might help tie the elements together better. |

What a stupid picture...leaving a child in front of a fireplace with the doors open... |

I think I would have liked this photo better if there was not such a strong light coming from the right hand side casting such a prominent shadow. Perhaps some soft lighting from the left to balance the shot would have helped. (Just guessing...I'm no expert.) |

Thuis is a good concept. If you had strong side lighting from the left on the baby you could accomplish two important goals: 1-You could see the baby much better. 2-You could prevent overexposing the flame in the fire. |

glad you kept the towel in but perhaps a pillow or blanket would reallly set the pucture off or perhaps an animal skin rug. |

What a great context to put this challenge in! I have several pictures like this of my own, and appreciate the break from the other more dramatic entries.
Since as is, I'd put this on my desk at work, this is only a suggestion to try: a little fill flash from the camera will lighten the shadows from the sleeping child, allow faster shutter speed (which brings in detail on the flames). On my flash, 1/4 power never seems to wake the child, which is an added bonus.
Thanks for sharing this. |

I like your basic idea here but the image lacks a closeness that would add interest for me (closer to the fire/child) |

The blanket (and what ever may be in it) might have been better focused. I keep peering at it, hoping it will sharpen up and I can find out more! |
