The sun came out today so as soon as the girls came home from school we drove out to the beach to take pictures of the sunset. I took shots of the girls with their cameras and found it amusing that Cartesia was trying get Taylor to smile for the camera. But I wasn't paying attention to my settings so I blew the "3 yr old photographer" shot.

I went down by the marina and noticed how the haze was blowing over the nice sunset. That reflection also caught my eye since it's usually not this calm. The title is from the Dire Straits song but it fits perfectly here. For the life of me I cannot understand why we're burning railcar after railcar of coal instead of harvesting the wind or sun. Evidently there isn't enough profit in protecting our planet.

In my processing I tried to enhance the pollution while keeping the beauty of the sunset. HDR on 3 shots, lots of color adjustments, dodging/burning, etc. I also fixed the perspective from using the wide lens. I used Genuine Fractals to resize at a higher than normal resolution (as an experiment to see how much detail is retained).

Let it be known that I did not use Fractalius on this picture.

I like the smoke reflected in the water and then how it ripples across the sky like the snow in the foreground. Strong lines.

That looks really neat, I like the bursts of color against the cool blue & grey tones.

Dude, this is AWESOME!!! What a clean image! It seems to me that all to often HDR shots get muddied in the details, and this just is NOT!!! Beautiful!!!!

Awesome image!
I like the steam cloud with the breaks in it looking like indian smoke signals in the old west, and the reflection in the water is just superb. Great image all over.

as a thumb i thought .. OMG he hasnt used fractalius !!!
as soon as it opened i thought i detected a subtle hint of lucisart .. but it appears i was wrong . this is a totally brilliant photograph and an excellent process .. i dont think fractalius would have enhanced this at all, like i reckon it did on a couple of your other ones and amanda's colourful one .. i'd be thinking this would go down extremely well in a free study .. but i've been wrong many times about wot would go well in a challenge .. !! .. :)
