Although not what you would call a DPC type shot, (it takes more than a moment to look and vote) It seems a few people enjoyed it. I think with a cleaned up back ground (noise) this would do well in a stock site. I also believe it would do well as a artwork, I can see it in a modern black and white room, or a nice contrast on a bright red wall. My wife watches a lot of home decorating shows ; p. BTW I do like it..

My very first impression is that you took a picture of black specks of pepper on a white table cloth. Took me just a second to figure out what I was looking at.

Compositionally, there isn't a lot here that follows the "standard" rules. On the positive side, that keeps people guessing, and I like shots that "fill the frame" with the subject. On the negative side, it can be difficult for people to find patterns or a rhythm to the shot, because it essentially doesn't exist.

Technically, there isn't anything "wrong" with the shot (focus, etc), but there isn't anything "right" with it either. It doesn't fit in the "standard" rules to follow, but it does have a high contrast, and it is interesting.

I think what probably hurt the most is while you had "contrast" the subject wasn't necessarily "isolated." The birds are "separated" from the sky, but with that many birds, it doesn't give the notion of being isolated well at all.

An interesting shot that I think would be cool printed really, really big.

If you have any questions, or if I need to further explain/clarify myself, please let me know.

Yes there is contrast with the black and whit but I'm not seeing the isolation by the contrast.

fascinating image, perhaps the 640px rule is an handicapp for this photo.

this kind of swarming behavior fascinates me.

lots of birds! great idea! but this proves to me, too much of a good thing is too much. I would have rated this a lot higher if you had concentrated on a lot fewer birds, say - 20. IMO....but a 4 anyway

This seems to be the exact opposite of the challenge - no isolation at all.

Very impressive photo, but unfortunately there is no isolation involved.

nice flock! I hope you didn't Art Wolfe this (like the editing done for his shot "Migrations). Beautiful image, and I fully think this meets the challenge.

Had absolutely no idea what this photo was of by looking at the thumbnail. Good idea but it still needs a main subject of some sort in there.

A very interesting interpretion of the challenge - well done! How did you get all the birds to face the same direction? :)
