Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Ice II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S3 IS
Location: Kitchen
Date: Dec 27, 2007
Aperture: F2.7
ISO: 80
Shutter: 10 sec
Galleries: Still Life, Food and Drink
Date Uploaded: Dec 27, 2007

This shot was done in the kitchen with light off. The purpose is to darken the environment and pan itself, to minimize the distraction.
Long exposure at max aperture. I regret using max aperture later when my wife asked me why I didn't use a smaller exposure to create the star effect, that was after the submission is closed.
The fire is blue color by nature (LPG). I used a bluish single LED torch light (China made) to shine from top.
I put a metal raiser inside the pan (those use for steaming). On the metal raise I put a shallow container to contain ice cubes. The purpose of the metal raiser is to reduce the heat transfer from the fire during the exposure, so that I could have more shots before the ice cubes are melted. And since the pan is quite deep, I can have this shot done with not-so-many ice cubes.

Great light on the ice cubes, coordinating with the blue flames.

Making sure you could enter either the ice or fire challenges? I like the blue glow, would have liked to see a bit more detail showing on the skillet.
