 Still not very good with Photoshop so the editing is minimal.

Levels, saturation and then selective blurring of the background -- thus creating the slight back lit effect.

Taken with my D50 + the SB-600 with a home made bounce card.

Post Challenge:

Looking at it now, I see how the aura could be distracting. I did this on purpose to help show the glow of the smile and to give it a bit of a saintly look.

The lighting is quite good for this, though the more professional portrait types could give you a better critique. Me, I love his smile! I will say I'm not fond of the background. For a portrait, a plain background is probably good, but to give the shot a three-dimensional look, I think it needs some texture to it of some sort - but that's a personal preference. I'd say overall in the challenge it did pretty well.

Your portrait makes me smile. Bit of an odd glow on the right hand side of the image along his ear and skull, but I love his exprression. You can't help but smile in return. Good luck in the challenge. 8

The portrait is good but the halo around your subject indicates a poor command of post processing.

I suppose the light aura arond you subject could be seen as saintly, but to my eye, it's a distraction.
