I went to a tea house with my husband, expecting a simple cup of tea... Instead, we were treated to a full tea ritual! The tray it is served on is actually hollow and it is designed to receive the "first" tea - that's the first water that touches the leaves - which should not be drank but used to warm the cup and service pot. It is then poured in the tray through the hole on the right. Then you brew the 2nd tea and this is good to drink.

I had chosen Oolong Tong Ting tea. It is wonderfully fragrant and a great comfort on a cold day. This whole ritual was a wonderful surprise and only added to a delightful cup of tea.

That looks like fun! I love the idea of a ritual......don't hurry, savor...... Life's rushed too much these days. Thanks for sharing your Slice of Life with us, and a Safe and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Neat! Thanks for sharing the details, I would've just thought you had a fancy little plate to put your tea on.

Wonderful and lucky you - what a nice treat. We went to several tea ceremonies while I was in China last summer and I have a friend who performs the Japanese ceremony with her students. I am so memorized by the ritual. Great shot!

That sounds like a fun little adventure. It's definitely not how tea is done here in the deep south. Here it's usually in a big glass with ice and sugar in it.
Your photograph is excellent for being shot in a restaurant setting. That tea pot must be tiny, or the thumb nail is big. : )

Nicely done. We should all recognize the importance of these nuanced rituals.
