Well, this was fun!

My wife & I went on an expedition to find the right venue. When we finally found it, we trudged through waist-deep snow to climb through dense forest & down to the creek. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain. What a work-out. Especially tough on her, as she was toting the swords (this one, and a broadsword - as I didn't know which one i wanted to use). This was definitely one of the more difficult shots to get to :O)

Once there, our only vantage point (short of standing in the creek) was an outcropping of packed snow that overhung the water. She actually had to pack it down so that it would hold my weight! (she's such a trooper)

The sword went through the snow like butter, so she had to tunnel underneath and pack it as well. Nothing like having a great assistant ;O)

This was manual HDR, merged from several shots at different exposures. CS3 really did a crappy job of HDR, so I did it myself. As I've done simulated-HDR in the past (different exposure passes on the same RAW file), I really don't think that actually using multiple REAL exposures bought anything. If nothing else, this was more time-consuming.

This turned out exactly as planned, so I guess I must be happy with it :O)

This is also my Round 2 entry for the League of Death challenge, so hopefully it takes me through to Round 3!

Hey congrats on moving on in the LoD. This is definitely better than mine. My fave part is the thick piles of snow on each rock. Great find!

Clever. Great detail and shadow in the snow.

Personally, the sword is just out of place in this photo. I do like the texture of the snow on the rocks.

Nice exposure but I'd love to see more of the river from a slightly different angle.

Lordy, I LOVE snow! I love this too, something a bit different to all the normal river/stream photos. Beautiful, curvy looking snow :)

It would be better without the sword.

What a fun scene to stimulate the imagination :-) The evergreens are a perfect color to set off the snow (which is nicely textured, BTW) and stream.

The sword adds an interesting touch, but it would have been a lovely scene without it as well.

Would be better without the sword IMO. Nice whites and greens.

I've come back to this shot numerous times and the sword is very distracting to me...

I'm just waiting for Uma Thurman to be standing on one of these rocks :)

Interesting shot - the katana definitely adds something something, I'm just not sure what!

would be better without sword or have an actual samuri in the picture.

I just don't see how the sword added to this photo.
