This is actually a two image HDR that has a gradient blend applied from a light shot at about 4.30pm and a dark shot at about 6pm. Ordinarily I'd have done this the other way around and shown sundown to night from left to right but the lights on the buildings were too nice so I reversed it and gave up on a 3+ image composite showing sundown over the canal.
I struggled to keep the image 'real' with so much mucking about with tone mapping (both photomatix and cs3's hdr function) but in the end went with this edit which is slightly surreal but I think is really punchy. It'll be interesting to see how many 'overprocessed' comments I get - this might be a love or hate image. My last image for Time Lapse was loved by some and hated by others for the blatant transitions, so I was going to try to do it again learning from the comments...but this came out :)
PP: everything related to levels and curves! images converted from raw, levels, contrast, brightness, usm on originals, gradient mask, burnt in front part of middle section in lock and some lights, noise ninja, resize, jpg.
Post Challenge: New PB (just) and not too bad considering there was so much quality in that challenge.

one of my favorites in the challenge, the range of colors and the night shot gave this strong appeal for me. |

Your photo reminds me of my usual Sunday morning walk, across Waterlow Park, down that street of faux Tudor houses, across Parliament Hill, and down to the lock for a beer and something or other. That was back in the early 80s... so the view has changed somewhat. It used to be much more gritty then. Life was. Thanks for the memories. Photo is not so bad either. |
