Challenge: Best of 2007 (Advanced Editing VII*) Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT Lens: Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Location: Mobile, Alabama Date: Dec 12, 2007 Aperture: f/4.5 ISO: 100 Shutter: 1/125 Galleries: Fashion, Portraiture Date Uploaded: Jan 17, 2008

The shoot:
A 60 inch reflective umbrella from the left(key), a 48 inch shoot through umbrella to the right(fill). A 48 inch reflector to the right(very faint rim light) and behind the subject.
A "squirrel cage" fan was in front of and below the subject to blow her hair.
Post-processing
I started off with a relatively neutral RAW conversion so as to have flexibility in post-process.
Post-processing began with a duplicate layer on which I ran shadow/highlights to give the hair pop (which I masked off).
Next, I made a curves adjustment to give the contour shadows some depth and then masked off only the shadows.
I made a global curves adjustment to give the entire image some pop and then desaturated the image some, leaving he blues at full saturation.
Next, a few skin blemishes were healed with the healing brush.
I then created a new layer for highpass sharpening and masked only the pants, hair and edges of the body, leaving the skin soft while sharpening detail where I wanted it.
I created a 50% gray layer, adding vignette with Filters >Distort > Lens Distortion.
Lastly, I converted to sRGB 8-bit, resized, smart sharpened and saved for web. |

A unique photo; I like the motion of her hair blowing around. The belt compliments nicely too. -BB

Hey Leroy this is a great shot of Christina (or is it Christa?) any who I love the form and the motion. Her lines are smooth and her shape devine. The holes in the back lets us know that these are her comfy jeans and she looks good in them. Nice shot Leroy. |

excellent pic - i love the Breezy hair and i love that you used a real woman as a model, not one of those super skinny chicks. Thank you! |

A familiar style; I think I can correctly guess who the photographer might be. While the photograph is technically competent enough, I fail to see what exactly its point is. Well, not that I think that every photograph has to have a point. Moreover, not knowing anything about the context in which the work was produced, I know I should not be too concerned about that anyway. Even then, I can't help but remain indifferent to it and see it as nothing more than a studio lighting exercise. |

Oh that belt is just perfect! It divides the picture in half, separating naked from clothed, public from private, the individual from the culture. See how the checkerboard of the belt mimics the checkerboard of life. The half that belongs to hher alone and the half that belongs to her world. I like! |
