Challenge: Best of 2007 (Advanced Editing VII*) Camera: Nikon D200 Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4.0G IF-ED Location: Mt. St. Helens, Wa., From Boundary Trail Date: Jun 3, 2007 Aperture: F16 ISO: 100 Shutter: 1/30 Galleries: Landscape, Black and White Date Uploaded: Jan 20, 2008

Mount St. Helens is still recovering and although there is vegetation it is still minimal after 27 years. Boundary Trail from the Johnston Ridge Observatory offers great views of the devastation that took place that day in 1980 that I watched it erupt. Well worth the trip for those who get in the area of SW Washington.
Converted from RAW in RSP w/ these settings:
Color Temp: 8100
Tint: -19
Exposure Comp: +.35
Fill Light: 37
Shadow Contrast: +30
Highlight Contrast: -16
High Contrast Curve
Cleaned in Noise Ninja set to auto
Used to PSE6 to crop, straighten, convert to B/W, layers to adjust foreground and clouds brightness and contrast, used Photo Filter to give Sepia tone w/o preserving luminosity, used levels to add back in some luminosity, used color curves to add brightness back to clouds and contrast, passed through Noise Ninja again, resized, USM, added border, saved for web. |

I remeber that 'Fire in the Sky' all too well. |

i dont think the two tone treatment works here. the mountain loses contrast against the sky. i think a brown or green mountain against a blue sky with streaks of white snow in it would have given the image a better feel. |

She looks like a sad ice cream cone, and the sky is a girl hovering mournfully above it. This photo looks plastic and small, like a science fiction movie of the 50s. I want to see what emerges. |

The processing gives the perspective that this image is from circa. 1929. Very interesting result. Good Luck. 6. |

Neat looking. I'm not sure about the sepia, though. Love to see this in color. |
