The dogs weren't intentional, but they showed up and I grabbed a couple of shots with them in the scene. In the end I felt like they added some balance and are certainly part of a young boy's childhood. Hopefully most viewers/voters won't find them too distracting. :-)

The idea was to make people think of the movie "A Christmas Story", and the "Red Ryder" bb-gun that Ralph coveted so much in the story. I had several titling conflicts and almost used just "Red Ryder" but decided to use one of the more memorable quotes from the movie instead.

This was my blue for the challenge, it truly represents childhood to me and I remember shooting thousands of bbs through a bb gun at paper plates, etc... Thanks for this wonderful photo. PS, I never liked that part of the movie because the parents should have taught the boy gun safety instead of demonizing the gun :)

That was fun! From reading the comments I see there was a connection to the movie for a couple of people. Cool! :-) Thanks everyone.

I can see why you used a gun and like the background, but why in the woods?

Eek, what kind of childhood did you have?! O_O
Certainly got my attention anyway...

I'm not a gun person, so I did not immediately recognize this as a bb gun. Almost cried "DNMC". I like the way the woodtones appear in this. Rich and textured.

Not at all keen on the idea of children and guns, and for that reason I have saved this for last and come back to it time and again. It is a superb composition - almost bucolic in its presentation. The depth of field is, to my eyes, spot on. So, despite being made slightly uncomfortable by the image, a 9 from me, and the highest mark I have given in this challenge.

Lovely almost desaturated colour look and feel which is great. Nice touch having the dogs in the frame.

Nice. You really captured a childhood feel with this. I just fear for the dogs a little. ;-)

This one is very amusing. I love that you have a genuine Red Ryder air rifle. The border, the shape and the depth of field are all pluses for me. The target and the dogs in the distance are well chosen as are the stump and the location with the fallen leaves. Good work.

The gun is lost in this picture and the background looks more interesting but is out of focus.
