I know it is not a very clear picture... I WILL get a lot of flack for that
...It's the best I could do on a cold & windy day
I entered it because I thought this building was very unique in its architectural design (later I came to find out it is an apartment building [i think?])!!!!

I noticed your comment in the Pet scores thread about getting rude comments on a recent challenge entry...so being curious I had to take a look. :-)
First, in your own words (from the Photographer's Comments area): "I know it is not a very clear picture... I WILL get a lot of flack for that".
Of the 10 comments you received during the challenge, every one of them mentioned "grain, noise, fuzziness", etc...
To me this just confirms your own thoughts about this image; "it is not very clear". Granted, some of the comments could have been more in-depth, and only 1 borders on rude IMO (if you take "the h**l" part out, it becomes a legitimate question).
I agree with your observations that this is a unique building. Under different circumstances I'd bet this building could do well in an architecture challenge. Perhaps early or late in the day with maybe some still water and nice reflections? What does it look like at night? Is it lit up? A little closer in maybe where it fills the frame more and eliminate some of the side distractions?
Please also consider that of the 193 votes you received, the large majority scored this at 4 or under. Be grateful that of those, 10 chose to comment and to give you some indication of what held the score down. Many on this site beg for feedback - any feedback - on why their entry scored low.
Overall, I think you picked a good subject. Just some fine tuning and listening to your own instincts would have helped in making decisions to improve this photo before submitting it for public review.
All JMO of course. :-)
Hello Barry,
The comment you are referring to was due to the "voters" during the brown-ribbon challenge. And my entry into the pet challenge - I was pleased with it!
This entry, I knew I wasn't going to due well, but I felt that this was an interesting enough building for people to see. Yes, it is "fuzzy", the sun is on the wrong side, etc...etc. I didn't expect to recieve a good score for this one.
I could really give a damn less what anybody on this sites thinks, because I have found (throughout my 6 years here) that some people love to over criticize or "vote down" basically for no reason or because they believe their photos are better than anyone elses. Sometimes I would rather have no comments at all (it doesn't bother me, like it bothers some).
And throughout all that, I still submit photos- hahahahah! What is wrong with me! :-P
I guess I am still here because, well:
1) I haven't figured out how to cancel my account!
2) I have spoken to few people here who are very helpful, nice, and pleasant (I'd like to keep them around)!
But I really appreciate your comment, your explanation, and your take on things. If you want to "critique" any of my other photos, please feel free to (at least you give an in-depth explanation, LOL).
Take Care,
-Nicole
p.s. - I have entered some new photos into the recent challenges. Let's see what "critiques" I get now.

While the graininess is a problem, I think an equal problem is the the near long side of the building is almost completely in shadow. If the sun is ever on this side of the building, having the visible two sides nicely lit, and a little tighter crop probably would have netted you a much better score. I'm with you, though. This trying to shoot outdoors in cold, wet, rainy, snowy weather is not fun.
