Taken at the barn my daughter rides at. It was getting dark so I kept it at 2.8 so I'd have enough light.

Converted in Photoshop Essentials.

The tones work well here with the composition, drawing us to the horse. I love the inclusion of so much context and that you avoided any temptation to crop this closer.

Bear in mind that this is the first shot of yours that doesn't just really do it for me. The horse is in an odd pose and seems out of sorts. The grey of the fencerails seems odd.....almost tone'washed if that makes any sense.......it's something I struccle with in B&W conversion. It's a little busy too. I hope these views help.

I like this composition..with the placement of the horse and inclusion of the fence. The horse seems very unconfortable though..like it is nervous about being a model. If ever an animal had a "forced pose" this is it :)

I love the way the fence curves across the image. Otherwise, I agree with other input. Well done!

I like the composition and the border. I think that if there was some way to have the trees not quite as dark so the horse stood out it would be even more eye pleasing.

Nice composition, the fence draws you right to the horse.

the lines lead me right to the horse's face - and the textures of the background make it need the fence to find it - good work

I like the composition and how the fence leads to the horse. It would be nice to see a closeup of the horse, but we still have many weeks left!

As a late commenter there's not much to add. I do like the environment, but (just translating the horse expression): Can't I get a closeup? But you got the expression!

Like everyone else has said - love how the horse has turned to pose for you. This may not work, but I would have actually liked to see a closer crop to get more detail on the horse's face. This is coming from an animal fan so take it for what it's worth. :)

I like how the fence leads you right to the horses mouth.

LOL on the horse's expression. Here's your possible tag line for an ad, "Here just in time for Winter '08, the latest trench coat from Abercrombie & Hitch! There are no stupid equestrians! Just equestrians yet unasked!" :}

(Thanks for a little latitude on my levity! My brain seems to think easily in phunny expressions for phaces in photos.) :} Excellent job BTY! :)

The fence gives this a nice structure, separating the ground from the leafy trees and leading to the horse. A very well balanced shot.

inquire is a tool you remind me of in your photo. Lines leading into the image and a face turned to inquire. Literal language in a visual setting.

Nice composition! I like the leeding lines of the fence and the leafs of the tree from above that keep the composition tight.

Really nice shot. The title ties in the look the horse is giving.

Very nice..from the leading fence line to the horse to the tree framing the top of the picture.

Ooooooh. . .this is a good one, Jeff! I'm so happy we will be sharing photos for the rest of 2008 :) If this is any indication of what you have up your photographic sleeve, I can't WAIT to see more :) Seriously, I think where you live is so beautiful. . .and black and white will showcase it perfectly!

This is a wonderful first week!

Nice framing and the fence keeps bringing the eye back to the horse as a focal point. Interesting image for the macro lens, however I often use mine for portrait images.

horses and farms always seem to look pretty in b/w, this reminds me of a series of shots my grandfather took.

i like the leading line the fence gives, almost seems the horse was posing for you! nice capture!

2.8? wow! still managed to get plenty of dof even wide open and bravo for using the 105mm MACRO lens for something other than its name suggests - awesome lens.

Lovely composition and the dof actually works very well (my first thought was to bump up the iso and close the lens down to around 5.6). Love the fence, trees framing the shot, the oof foreground and the way the fence drops down the hill. My only niggle would be the detail on the horse, his jacket is just like a black blob without detail. Am not a big fan of borders, probably cos I'm carp at them and always choose the wrong format but this frame seems to open the image up (whatever that means lol).

Some great work in 'BOTH' of your previous B&W side challenges and hoping for more of the same from you :)
