Week 4:

Taken Jan 26th

Taken in IR. the clouds were great that day and I like how tis turned out except I feel the Tree kind of gets lost in hte sky. I flipped this so the tree would be on the right. Lots of dodgeng and burning on sky and ground.

To answer Ecce Signum question about the settings on this shot. I had a 350D converted by Life Pixel soley for IR work. They remove the hot mirror in front of the sensor(the thing you clean all the time b/c of dust) and replace it glass that allows IR light through. It can only be used for IR work now, but that's just fine by me:) Thanks for the comments everyone!

Perfectly composed and presented. A treat to look at, but one with substance as well as form.

All features and details beautifully done and full of interest, but I am having a hard time finding a balance. (May change my mind). For me the tree against the clouds IS the main thing, like polyphonic music.

I would not have guessed this to be IR either. It really came out well. I agree the top of tree gets slightly lost but you captured the scene amazing well. I love all the tones from white to black.

I never would have guessed this was IR. My first thought was that I see scenes like this all the time here and I would never be able to make mine look as good as this. The sky is so dramatic and I like that the tree is reaching up to touch the clouds. I think your perspective and black and white contrasts make this typical country scene so much more striking.

The sky really draws the eye. Makes for a nice motion through this photo. Nice.

The converted camera does a great job capturing the scene. I have an IR filter that I don't use often enough but this just seems to have something extra. The tree, sky, and road all add up to make a great picture.

The use of a different light, a different polarization, a smeared filter, all yield a changed world. You teach me to look beyond the ordinary and experiment.

simplicity in a complex tree - we don't have lone trees like that around me - a pity - i would like to try and emulate this photo

This really is very dramatic. I think flipping it so the tree is on the right was a good move. all in all, I think this is a great shot.

Very nice tree and clouds, and like the line of the road. (Did not realize this was IR until I read your comments.)

gorgeous - Of course the clouds look fantastic. I think you made an good choice to frame the roadway with a diagonal sweep - not shooting it straight on. Excellent!

Great shot and from a great angle too. As others have said it doesn't look very IR to me. Does the 350D have an IR setting cos I thought it had a pretty strong IR (removal) filter built in? Print it big and hang it on your wall (or better still sell it)

Stunning. I could see this hanging on a wall!

Cool title and very dramatic picture. The tree is so interesting to look at. The sky sure makes this picture with its bright white clouds and darker spots in between.

Very good - well suited to blank and white. The lonely tree makes it very nice.

Very dramatic and interesting. The sweeping lines are wonderful - and the tree is just fine - pretty eerie.

Absolutely correct ... this does have the WOW factor, in spades! And even better is the terrific title to accompany it.

The clouds are just amazing behind that huge old tree. Sweet b/w and contrast. The road leads me perfectly through the picture to a magnificent sky.

Dang! This is a fabulous photo in black and white. Ansel Adams would be impressed! Your contrast is flawlessly beautiful. The composition, with that big ol' barren lone subject tree and the road and soft wintery trees in the background. 10!

fabulous composition. It realy doesn't look like an IR, more like tonemaped...maybe because of the b&w conversion. The tree looks spooky.

Totally STUNNING sky - really amazed by the position of the centre of the clouds 'eye'.

The tree is truly lovely.

I think I'd like a little (and I mean 'little') more black in selective colour - but even without its wonderful.

Interesting that it's IR - I wouldn't have guessed that. A polarizer for the sky, maybe, but not IR. Really does give deep darks to the sky which adds to the drama of the shot. I think you made a good choice in flipping it, too.
