For being 288 years old, this mission is amazingly beautiful. I can't believe mass is held in it, still, several times a week! I was trying out a new lens - love the aspherical qualities. This was taken at 14mm. I captured a lot of images so you'll see more in the weekly side challenge.

This was shot in RAW and converted to B&W using Camera RAW and then resized.

As always, feedback is much appreciated!

Cheers!

*I think this looks blurry, view image full size - looks better/sharper. Is there an optimum pixel size I should be loading my images at?

the perspective really is well done here - the angles of the pews add such a nice repeating theme. I especially like how the cross is illuminated. i guess my one complaint is the sharpness of the image - i see that you say the full sized image is nice and sharp - don't forget to give resized images for web a bit of sharpening before posting (i like UnSharp Mask at 200%,0.2 pixels,0 threshold) just to give it a bit of pop.

Excellent curves and flow in this image. I agree that a bit of contrast might brighten it a bit (though I would use curves to try to bring out some textures and tones in the walls while not blowing the windows, which you've controlled for nicely here).

I was thinking this looked a bit blurry too. I think a little more contrast would give this a nice punch.

I'm happy with the blown out windows and think it adds to the overall feel of the image. Melethia has it right, I oft sharpen the image to my liking then give it another 'tweak' for display on the web ;)

I really like the way your lens handles this space, giving the arches and clerestory generous and free play. Great sense of light and space.

I love the perspective you used and the glow on the cross is very cool.

288 years is quite young if I look at the old churches we have here. Still, it's a very nice shot, as if I'm just sitting here.

As said in other comments, the windows are a little blown out (hard to avoid, I think). Perhaps you should use that effect and just darken the church a little.

I know this place! Your lens makes it seem bigger than it really is inside. It almost appears as though the light on the cross is reflecting along the top of the pews. Good shot. And yes, they do seem a little soft on DPC - I find that I have to sharpen a bit more than I'm comfortable with for posting here.

I love the perspective and composition of this shot. It looks like a wonderful place. One very small thing, I wonder if by boosting the highlights ever so slightly the light that is falling on the pews on the left side, would stand out a bit more. Just thinking out loud really, not trying to suggest it's not good as it is!

Thanks for the awesome comment. I love history and old buildings. Went by your portfolio - "Let me drink from the waters" is an incredible image! What a trophy!

Thanks again

I did shoot one from the center aisle, I'm always one for symmetry. I'll probably post one on this side challenge if I'm not able to get out and shoot one week. Right now I'm striving to make time to get behind the lens each week - this side challenge is awesome! I did't lighten up the cross - there were a couple of lights on it already. Thanks for your comment!

This one captures the repetitive pattern of benches nicely. Would like to see a separate photo looking more upward emphasizing the great arches.

Beautiful location and the lighting inside is great. the windows are a little blown out but i really like the light on the benches (is that what they are called?)on the left in comparison to the dark ones on the right
