Not the best image for my dark monitor but still looks good before I do the old view from 45 degrees trick to allow the details to jump out of the dark at me ;)
'Noir' is the word that first came to my mind. Big print in a big frame would really make this pop - nice one :) |

Not going to read the other comments yet. Going to try to find my own words for this. The black is black, but not so black. That's all I can think.
(Thanks for including details; would also like to know where in the zoom range. Also for sharing with us and foregoing the challenge).
Edit:Hajeka's comment, "The light is getting brighter and brighter when I look longer to this photo," is very nearly the same as mine.

Cool shot, I love the subtle play of light on the sidewalk and the halo around the light pole, nicely seen. |

Very cool - it's almost like your lighthouse moved inland. I love that lone beacon of light hanging on top of the stick. Moody, indeed! |

Very dark, very rich. And yes, just barely on the left are what look to be concrete pillar things along the pathway. Makes one wonder what lurks beyond those. Also looks quite cold, damp, and entirely miserable. |

Incredibly mysterious picture. Love the glow of the light through the fog and the detail in the foreground. Another great capture! |

I like dark shots like this, even though they don't normally do very well on this site. There is just enough detail to make this interesting. The dark tones are very rich, and like the placement of the light/reflections in the photo. The columns down the left side lead you in. |

I can imagine Harry Potter sitting in the gutter. Great eerie sense to this. |

I like it. Very creepy. Just needs Jack the Ripper following some unsuspecting woman. |

Without the post it would be a great moon shot. Great street light moody foggy night shot. The B&W is wonderful. |

love moody pics too! b/w are my favorite. I think that the wet sidewalk leading up to the light give it a sense of depth bringing it to life. |

I really like this. the wet pavement has a great feel to it. Just enough interest in the columns. The comp seems a bit off balance to me. Not sure about suggestions. LG |

I like night photo's, I've actually only taken a few however, but I really like the various details they illuminate.....always adding interest to the photo. Nice slight leading lines with the fence (stone) post on the left. |

You remind me that light and dark are both metaphors of good and evil, the known and the unknown, sincere and the insincere etc. Simple compositions using simple lighting can be very powerful. |

Very nice darkness depicted here. I would have preferred it if the columns on the left were just a tiny bit lighter. Great pavement texture. |

I love fog pictures too! I have trouble getting good ones tho at night, but you sure don't! This is in fact very brooding and moody. I love the texture in the bottom /foreground part of the photo. It adds much interest to the darkness. |

I love this shot!! I've always loved dark and mysterious photos, and I've been meaning to get out and try it myself, I'm just too lazy! The water reflecting on the concrete is gorgous!

The light is getting brighter and brighter when I look longer to this photo. Wonderful details on the path and the almost invisible fence (?) at the left. |
