Gourmet dinner, Pork tendorloin...yum!
Took this photo at a high end restaurant, one of the most expensive meal I have ever eaten in Banff Springs. The restaurant had really dimmed lighting so I increased the ISO and lowered my fstop. Also set it on spot metering and on telephoto lens. This meal was gone fast!

Says who? Try looking at the news stand these days and finding a single cover where the entire dish is in focus.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I definitely learned a lot! I'm a new photographer and I'm totally enjoying this stuff!!! Congrats to the winners!

That would be a foam on the pork chops. Glad to hear you got to eat your props!

You clearly knew what you wanted to capture here, but have been let down by the technicals. The light temperature is too warm (giving an orange colour)- this means the plate isn't white enough and the food colours don't have enough 'zing' in them. Also the focus is not crisp enough.

that said , at least you get to eat your props afterwards :- )

Color seems off, looks underexposed. To truly get the effect of advertising on food, use hairspray to give it "shine".

I like the color variations but this picture is lacking advertisement for a real subject.

leaves me wanting more

The meat is out of focus

Food shots are hard. The DOF has to right on or it doesn't seem appitizing. I should be able to recognize what it is that being sold and I can't here. sorry.

What's this for?
02/08/2008 10:09:39 AM
this is very unappetizing with the spit looking substance on the side. but good idea other than that
02/07/2008 08:55:41 PM
Looks like someone spit on the food! Ugghh.
02/07/2008 04:01:31 PM
Needs more "invitation". Lighting a little flat, color a little off, DOF a little short.
02/06/2008 07:29:22 PM
I think that if you had carbon monoxided the food (you an buy them in canisters) it would have helped with the colour. Maybe better lighting would have made this yummy looking dinner pop too

I like the idea here. The compo is decent. But the lighting is way off - it makes the food look quite unappetizing.

I am sorry to say this does not look too tasty. You brought out some of the meat's texture, but the veggies look overcooked and I am not sure that I would like to know what's on the top left of the plate. Also note that the plate is not clean (left) and the wb looks a little warm.
02/06/2008 01:32:53 PM
This photo is so warm and beautiful, I can almost taste it!

A fresher light source would work wonders for this image I feel.
02/06/2008 10:15:36 AM
Exposure and White Balance are both off. This shot would have been better if the color had been right.

Dont really care for the shot it the food really looks old. Maybe try using a different light setting.
02/06/2008 08:44:39 AM
needs better lighting or white balance
02/06/2008 04:35:11 AM
sorry, I wouldn't eat that, doesn't look tasty. that's probably because you chose the wrong white balance
