that is a serious collection of gulls - the background awash with gulls provides such great rhythm to the shot. i just wish there was a bit more space in front of them to provide someplace for them to go

the contrast of the b/g of birds is just awesome

What a capture, I think I specially like it not only because of the frozen action of the 2 seagulls but also for the fact the background is so busy and you can see all the motion in there =]

Totally agree with the other commenters, well done seperating this pair of gulls from the flock! I've tried it and it isn't as simple as it may appear. Would be interested to know if you had to crop this much for the excellent composition?

Thought this would be nice from the thumnail - light coloured gulls against a light textured background. Truly exceeded expectations. Sweet little plump bodies and freckled heads. Just wondered if you paid ALL the models. Very nicely presented. T

Wow that's a lot of seagulls in the background lol. But that is what really makes the pic since you've got these two emerging from the chaos. I love the clarity and detail on the faces of both birds.

Two Gulls, Three Legs, Four Wings, lol. Cool pic, I like the gulls in the background, well done.

A single pebble on a beach. One among many. The choice of that one (or in this case two). This photo technique you teach me about and how to make that isolation within a context.

It takes a moment to see the background is also gulls - and it's an excellent backdrop. I like the closeness of the two you captured in the foreground, and it appears one is missing a leg, poor thing. Perhaps they've banded together for that reason.

I like how you've captured these against a sea of other gulls in the background, creating a wonderful texture.

This is so good! I love the high contrast and I think all the texture makes this so interesting. It reminds me a little of those old prints where the texture makes its own design and if you stared at it long enough a beautiful shape would pop out 3-dimensionally. It is a very cool composition.

Good capture of the birds. Shallow depth of field helps isolate them well from the background.

I was at the beach the other day getting some bird shots, and know how difficult it is to get one this good. It's beautiful! The focus is perfect, and the shallow DOF makes the subjects really stand out. Also, the B&W conversion is excellent.

Nice action capture here. This is a tough shot, since the background is no busy. A shallower DOF helps in these cases, but those lenses (long range with wide apature) are expensive (at least for me). Nice shot overall.

This has me inspired to go out to Coney Island and shoot Gulls. Maybe too cold out...
