A shot of my partner Eric, in the back yard just before sunset.

I used mild retouching to remove razor burn and a stray pimple or two and some brown specks from the grass in the background. Then I did the usual levels, hue/saturation, unsharp, save, undo, resize, unsharp that I always do.

Nicely done. I'd prefer a tighter crop.

nice casual shot...the colors are good, nice blurring of the background...well done

A tighter crop on top might help. Having said that, the colors in this one are very distinct. Overall a good shot but needs a more unconventional approach, IMHO.

This is another one with awesome contrast and color between the subject and background. I'd almost say that this may be related to the other picture I commented on.

Nice colors and angle of view, not to mention the look captured. - 7

Hi eric! A competent portrait but a bit bland and uninteresting. Eric is a good model. Go for a walk with him and try some candid shots sitting, walking, talking etc. You will probably manage to capture somethign of his character.

Did you add that sparkle....nice contrasts and colors.

pull the crop on the top closer to his hat. too much green up there.
There is a grey line across his shoulders, and a strange unevenness to his neck.
great expression on his face.. captured a great personality here.

Nice job. It doesn't pop out from the competition, but there's not much to complain about either. There is something behind his shoulders (greyish) that's distracting.

Good capture. Nice shallow DOF. Even skin tones and direct, intimate contact with the subject. The catchlights in his eyes are fragmented and that's a little distracting but it looks like from the light that it was natural lighting. The light seems just a little flat (which could easily not be the case in the full sized version) so I'd only suggest a little more flash or probably a reflector. I don't know that a gold reflector would work well in this instance since the subject already has strong red tones to his skin but perhaps a white or, believe it or not, a black surface could put some nice, even light back up onto his face from below or from his right side. One tooth has a minor "hot" spot on it that with prolonged perusal can be a distraction but for the contest this is not a nit I'm counting off for and it'd be easily "fixed" before you printed to hang it. Maybe a little less green space at the top if you decide to print it and hang it but otherwise its a great shot. Technically sound and very pleasant to view. 8

hmm - I thought from the thumbnail I wasn't going to like this, too centered blah blah - But surprise! I DO like it. For some rason I can't explain it shows a lot of personality 7

very colourful and conveys an interest in sport - hope that is right! Lighting is good, minimal shadows while still conveying depth. A less intense background might provide a variation but would lessen the sporty motif.
