the composition is right on the money
i am not a big fan of the grain that you have applied - it comes off to mee as too blotchy and artificial - How did you add the grain? |

Love the composition here and everything fits perfectly. jury is still out on the added noise, maybe tone it down a little? Another time I may have been wanting a still lake for a perfect reflection but feel the added noise (if toned down a little) fits in well with the reflection. As has been mentioned I too love the gradient in the sky. |

ok well, I hate the grain lol. I want to see a smooth sky and look at the bright arch contrasting against it. This is a beautiful scene and I love seeing the reflection in the water. I would also like to see this in color too. |

Love the feel of this. The grain softens the sky and possibly the contrast with arch as well, and echoes and balances the ripples in the water pulling the 2 parts of the picture together. As well the feathery texture of the trees fits right into this. Shading of dark to light, rule of thirds etc... too, but mostly the texture makes this very accessible. (And I don't think this is only because I have seen ugly postcards of the arch). |

The trees help conceive the size of this, I'm sure about the grain, it makes it look like a newspaper print. |

Great photo of the arch, I thought it was smack in the middle of the city.
The trees show the true size of this structure. I think the grain is not not needed, or maybe less of it though. |

This is the perfect subject for B&W, with the contrast from the arch and that fantastic reflection. This is different from many of the pictures I've seen of it and makes me want to visit it myself; you've shown it's true scale. I don't care for the grain, but that's just my preference. |

You remind me with this photo that context is important - even in the visual arts. The context might be a tree to show scale or some words to express the context. Some wonders of the modern world are easily overlooked without context. For instance, I believe no one can truly understand peace unless they have been drenched in war. The context is often missing these days. |

I've been to the top, and it is amazing. The elevator/trolley that goes up following the curve of the arch is pretty interesting, too. It's a beautiful photo, and I especially like the broken reflection of the arch in the water. |

Wow! you made this look like that huge arch is in the middle of nowhere. Way to go. Very nice! |

I visited this as a very young child and used to have a replica on a necklace. It's long since gone, but I do recall the gradiosity of the thing! I like the added grain and black and white is a very good medium for this structure - if I recall, it's silver in color. |

I love the Arch - although I haven't been there recently.
Nice image - it would really nice if the water were calm to project that mirror like reflection. |

Wow! 600 feet tall! I can't believe it. Our Tower of the Americas is 750 feet tall and it looks to reach into the heavens. Maybe at some point you could get this photo with a person in it to give even more a sense of the scale. I am in awe.
I love the slight added grain. It works well and enhances a kind of nostalgic feel to this photo.

This is a lovely shot of the Arch. I am not sure the grain is needed, but it does work. I think I may prefer it without (at least as I imagine it would be without). I nearly freaked when I went up the Arch, somehow the view from the top is a bit unnerving. |

Sunlight on steel always seems to be particularly effective in black and white: maybe it isn't steel, but it has that feel about it. I think I like the graininess - although it has perhaps a sense of being added after the show - could be just because I know that - as it goes against the obvious approach. |

Very nice! I've been up in that Arch a couple of times and it is amazing! This shot has an IR look to it the way the trees stand out against the sky and the white ground. I agree about the grain..it is kinda neat in the foreground water, but I don't like it in the sky that much. I'm pretty sure I would prefer it without the grain. |

You are fortunate for your proximity to this amazing and remarkable construction. The predominate and most interesting structure on the St. Louis city skyline. Unique to the city or any other American city.
I enjoy your Arch gallery & all your photo interpretations of this symbol of the city. The grain effect in this foto and also in this - have the feeling of viewing from afar, through some haze, from a distance, which is usually the way it is casually observed. (even though you are close) I think your Arch fotos thoughtful and articulate.

This is nice. I generally don't... or rarely mention noise but it doesn't seem to do this image justice. This shot screams for crispness in it's detail and all around feel. I really like the crop and the reflection.
That's a different shot but there are oddly a lot of similarities/parallels and I think these settings and pp wouldn't have done this scene well.
