Matzo is symbolic of the unleavened bread eaten by the Jews during the Exodus from Egypt; in their haste to escape the pursuit of Rameses they did not have time to let their bread dough rise. The title term refers to the tribulations associated with the subsequent 40 years of wandering in the Sinai Desert.
At one point during the Passover Seder (ceremony), the middle of the stack of three is broken in half, with one half hidden as the "Afikomen" (to later be the subject of a children's "treasure hunt"), with the other half being replaced for the moment.
Bread doesn't get much simpler than this -- to be Kosher for the Passover ceremony, the wheat must be ground, mixed with water (and nothing but water) and baked, all within eighteen minutes; it must not be allowed to rise at all.

This didn't do as well as I thought it would. Deserved a lot better for a final score. Looking at the other comments now, it was probably because a lot of voters don't know what Matzoh is. I gave it a 7, BTW. |

Flatbread? Tortillas? Crackers? Not sure what this is, but looks bread-like, so that's good. ;) Great composition and nice use of DOF. |

The extreme shallow DOF makes it hard for me to actually tell exactly what the image is. |

I didn't even think of matzoh for this challenge! Well done, and the cloth adds just the right splash of color to this. |

I think you could have cropped the bottom and right some more and had a better image. The out-of-focus areas are distracting. |

Now here is another reason to use a title with a picture - I had no idea what this was - looked the title up on the internet and had an interesting read on the subject of 'The bread of affliction'.
Great things titles : ) |

A wider depth of field would improve this image |

very interesting arrangement. I like the lighting from the bottom and top, giving the bread a very appealing texture. |
