acknowledgement to C.L. Edson, the author of the poem by the same name. I just liked the title.

I had another cool idea for this challenge, but couldn't get it to work. Of course, I waited til the last minute. It was going to be a shot of bread that had dropped onto the board, with flour flying up from underneath it into the air. I used my laser timer that I had built for Deja Vu challenge, and it worked great. the only problem was that the flour wasn't flying up enough. And I gave up after sending flour all over the basement carpet.

so I tried this one, which is inspired by the Table Shot II winner by jrjr.
Lit with 2 off-camera flashes, directly left and right of dough, slightly elevated.

PP very minimal - opened RAW in CS3, adjusting black level. hue/sat layer to eliminate a little of the green table that was showing in upper left of frame. slight crop. black and white layer. change mode to greyscale. then to duotone. resize, added border. That's it.

I love this shot - reminds me of my mother so many years ago.

Wonderful mood here. I like the composition and the depth of field. It really elicits a feeling of old-age toil, with the dough on the fingers substituting wrinkles produced by a lifetime of labor.

What I like best about this one is the lighting and focus. The whole scene really looks like someone making bread instead of just posing for it. Good luck!

i cannot understand how can such a messy photograph be so beautiful at the same time. fantastic details. gorgeous gray tones. stunning lighting. btw the person should try out "hand modeling" job. at least nice fingers for sure :)

One of my favourites... Very nice light and textures. One comment which isn't that important (anyway)... Following the forearms it may seem to some that the hands are posing, not actually kneading.

Excellent monochrome. Great composition and lighting (maybe a little too dark towards the top?) but certainly one of the strongest of the challenge.

A fine effort, but I think the hands disappearing into black like this gives it a creepy feel. Maybe just letting dof do the job for you would have helped

I would have liked more texture in the dough and the flour in the foreground, but a great shot of the hands...

This was a difficult subject and there were few inspirational photos but this was one of them. I can feel the dough and the flour. The contrast and gloom in the background give this image a moody, sensual ambience. I just love it.
