Well I definitely had a little trouble coming up with an idea for this challenge and I was gonna skip it but thought of this at 10:45 the last night so its pretty last minute... Shot in my kitchen with a burnt piece of toast soaked in lighter fluid... It made our house smell pretty bad but I was much happier with this shot than my original one I had for this challenge.

Anyways here are the shot details: shot in RAW, adjusted the exposure, saturation, sharpness, applied an unsharp mask, resized, exported as jpeg. Hope it does well.

Greetings from the Critique Club

First Impression

Crispy! Why? Quickly followed by, why not? :-)

Looking Deeper

Glad you didn't burn up your kitchen taking this shot. The flames are actually quite nice. Some good height to them and nice color too!

From a technical standpoint the flames are the primary subject with the toast being a close secondary. The flames are also going to be the focal point from an illumination standpoint. This makes everything else seem like darker (secondary) players. Hmmm...having a hard time with technicals on this shot. What else... Compositionally the plate balances out the flames and keeps the presentation from becoming too centered. The noise (lack thereof actually) is good - nice clean image in that regard.

Could you have used another background? With the flames I can't imagine using anything flammable...hmmm.

I don't know. I guess in the long run the photo is fun and humorous. Not extremely exciting, but not a dull poorly done entry either...kind of middle of the road. A safe shot to get a quick chuckle from, hit the '5' button, and move on.

Wish I could say more in a constructive criticism mode...

I'm glad you had fun putting it together and I do want to say "Thanks" for putting comments in the Photographer's Comment area (not many people make that effort).

Questions? Let me know. Thanks!

I always like a good fire image. I think the toast is done.

Flame is nicely captured. Shot needs greater DOF.

great image of the flame; I can almost see them moving. Now personally, that toast is much overdone:)

If I had a nickle for everyone of these pieces that I've had, I'd be rich! *wink* Love the capture of the fire!

While I like the fire, I don't like the background and the colors of the toast. Maybe a black and white would have been better?

I had an uncle who liked his toast like that.
