Greetings from the Critique Club...
Hi Jbruno...
I think this is a decent portrait shot. The composition is nice and the soft light and soft focus effect seems to work nicely in conjunction with the image noise. I think the low contrast always adds a sense of peacefulness to the image. It looks like the comments you have received on this photo are all over the board. Black and white, soft focus, and grain are all elements that are liked and disliked subjectively. Not many people take the purpose behind it into consideration and evaluate based on those considerations.
Good work :)

Looks like hot fixage... The composition is great but this granularity adds nothing. Also the mid-tone range is lost somewhere. |

You might have been going for the fuzzy noisy look, but i'm not so sure that it works for this picture - a less noisy (neatimage tinkled) photo might of conveyed the warm comforting feel in the photo better? An image with less noise would have given more detail, which personally i feel is semi-important in a portrait. And finally I would have cropped the bottom off a bit - more head less blanket. Composition though is really good, and i like the lighting. 6. |

A nice peaceful photograph. A great capture of the subject's personality - something every portrait should strive to do. I like the tones and the lighting. |

Very nice set-up, but the grain to me, doesn't work on this one. |

Too grainy. I would have liked it better in focus. |

nicely composed and very sweet and tender, but way to underexposed. |

well composed and the grayscale works well. A little grainy. |

Cute sleeping baby. Seeing more blanket then baby, little grain, but the light is okay.

Very sweet - nice use of noise to soften the image further - low contrast too to emphasise the message. |

has a nice soft feel to it and that works ok for a baby picture I think...there is a piece of something that looks as if it is coming out the top of his head the kind of pulls my eye away |

This was my idea! LOL! A lovely shot of a lovely child but the noise in this shot is very distracting, almost over softened. A 6 |
