Greetings from the Critique Club!
The message
To me, this is a person who is confident and caring, and perhaps a bit daring. I don't know if this fits Brandon, but that isn't important to me; it is a great portrait.
Creative choices
The directional lighting works well here. Lack of fill lighting creates shadows and makes a low key image, which works well. Black and white is a good choice, and the blue eyes are nicely subtle, bringing out his soul without being too garish. The composition are great, as is his pose, especially positioning his ear just right to show the stud.
Technical aspects
The soft focus is perfect for a portrait. His right cheek is a bit bright for the darkness of the rest of the image; the texture is lost in that area. |

Very nice lighting (a touch softer would work for me), but highlights the face very well. I do like you keepig the eyes blue. the range of grays is great. a touch more contrast. great job |

I like that you did the eye coloring in a more subtle fashion than many of the other entries. Also like the lighting ... dramatic, yet appropriate. |

I think the lighting is a bit too harsh and strong on his face and his eyes could use a bit more saturation. Also, I don' t like the shadow that his hand is casting under his neck. |

I think it´s an interesting portrait. I really love your use of soft focus. Furthermore, I really love the eyes, I think you didn´t eliminate the colour of his eyes, It was a fantastic effect that gives to the image more power. One of the best pictures of this week. 10 |

Very nice. Skin tone is a little too pale for my taste. |

Good soft portrait. Smart decision to leave the blue in the eyes. |

Nice pose and composition. Personally not keen on the harsh lighting nor the selective desaturation. |

I like the lighting, although it could be just a tad too bright on the left side of the face. Gives it a nice broody feel to it. The choice of black and white adds to the broody feel as well, and I like the slight color in the eyes, which is muted enough to not look cheesy and does draw me toward them. The mixture of softness and yet remaining sharp is good too. Nicely captured. |

Nice lighting and composition...you`ll probably get remarks about burnt out highlights on the right side of the face and the selective desaturation gets scored down also from a lot of voters.
Personally, I like these effects and think that this is one of the better portraits i`ve seen so far.....9 |

Ah, it isn't a black and white study! Well, the eyes made me look again and again, so you achieved an important effect. Like the subtle lighting, although it is a pity that his right cheeck appears to be just blown out - maybe a bit of tissue over the light - but an effective portrait anyway. |
