In NH during the short days of winter the sun doesn't rise very high above the southern horizon. This was taken at just pass noon yet the shadows are still long across the snow.

I love that the snow is really white. As others have mentioned, the positioning of the tree stump dead centre is somewhat distracting, I would like to have seen a bit more space to the right of it. The shadows are very well captured and the conversion to b&w is great.

Really nice B&W of the snow, showing great details. Nicely composed, I like how there are no tracks to break up the peaceful feeling of the scene.

Love the lines of the shadows and trees, both composition and exposure are spot on. Personally I'd like to see a little more detail in the stump maybe by using fill-in flash? Amazing that this was shot around noon!

Oh my, snows of childhood when I was surrounded by woods and light, can almost taste it. The lines, the leaning, the curves, the mounding. Crisp, vibrant.

Hi NH!! Greetings from the sticks of VT!! Definitely you caught the angles and shadows of the beautiful winter light so well! I don't love the stumo @ dead center, i think it dimishes the excellent angles of the bg trees which so good, and all that lovely light and shadows...very nice!

Nice perspective :)

I like the snow that has fallen on the cut tree.

You captured the snowiness of snow and the winteryness of winter. To capture these fleeting characteristics of objects, materials, and even seasons is an art. This is a fine image. I learn something here for sure.

Very good. I like the way the stump gives me something to look out across at the rest of the image. It gives me a focus without grabbing the attention.

Incredibly gorgeous light. Winter may not be much for being hospitable, but she does her best to use light to dress up and look lovely, doesn't she? The shadows are rich, tones are excellent, and the composition very pleasing to present this better side of cold and snow.

How pretty. I'm jealous. All my midday pictures look like studies in what NOT to ever ever do with a camera -- blown out harsh messes. Here, the lines seem to warm it up and give the photo an energy that I really like.

Nice work. There's a strong sense of luminosity, and a strong sense of texture to it all. So much of poeple's black and white work devolves to grey, but this has a real sense of dynamic range.
