History: My wife's family has lived for a number of generations in central Florida. This means that orange growing has had a real impact on there lifestyle. (For instance, even in February, 2008, this very weekend I saw a tree full of nice, round, ripe, delicious oranges in my Father-in-Law's front yard.)

Dade City (which has nothing to do with Miami & Dade County) is located about 40 miles to the Northeast of Tampa Bay in Pasco County.

Though the Lykes-Pasco Orange Processing Plant was a hub for work in Dade City for many years, the orange processing plant has relocated for effeciency reasons. This original plant is now a museum with daily tours...Ah! Living History! :)

Stan, where is the soapbox in the picure? Loved the sermonette but guess in this world wide web thingy we are all after instant gratification?

Nice job on the pp'ing though maybe a little sepia toning would have aged this a little more?

Nice truck! It's a great shot - could be a magazine advertisement of yore.

This is what a truck is supposed to be. Makes me long for the time when T-shirts didn't have writing on them, and when people bent over you didn't see their cracks.

You captured this at a good angle and it had the old-time feel to it. This makes me wonder about the history about this vehicle, and all that it has seen, and all those who rode in it.

Nice old truck and a reminder of a day when things were slower, more personal and more deliberate. Makes you wanna go back and sit on the porch in the summertime with your grandparents, nice post to reminds us to take our time, if only once in a while.

Nice contrast on the truck, b&w adds to the feel of story, thanks for posting that too.

What a lovely old thing! Thanks very much for the history and story behind it. That's half the fun of these side challenges - learning stuff about other places.

Great rant & lovely image!

I love how you have the truck "popped" in the foreground.

Just remember that many of the "Movers & Shakers" miss out on their own lives!

I love it! The truck sitting proudly, boldly standing out right where it sits.

But I have to say. . .I think I liked your sermonette as much if not more than the photo :) You are so right. Sometimes I get so weary that NO gratification is ever instant enough anymore! Not too long ago, we couldn't even wait for a Fed Ex to get over-nighted to London because of the time difference -- so we had to email this enormous file to a company over there, have them print it, and hand deliver it to our recipient in immediate fashion.. . .sigh. . . and to think no one used to die. . .businesses did not fail in times gone by when we just did things at a normal pace! I am on that soap box with ya!

Great story Stan and yes I took the time to read all of your sermonette too. Love the way you have made this old truck stand out and look important.

I called the number on the side of the truck, but they don't deliver to Brazil:)

Great photo, the truck really jumps off the page and the detail is excellent. The subject is perfect for B&W.
