This is my reinterpretation of ScubaSteve13's photo:
The original photo was shot for the Bubbles II challenge in April 2007.
I decided to keep Steve's original framing and set - but to bring out the bubbles more whilst keeping attention on the plug hole to help keep the title reference to drains (steve's original idea) and also staying relevant to that challenge (i.e. bubbles). I also closed the plughole to make it look more menacing, also in keeping with the title - as if the bubbles were lamenting the plughole being closed. Also shot this with the drain towards the third and not centrally as originally taken.
PP: HDRed from 3 exposures (AEB +2, 0, -2) from jpg, greyscale, duotone, levels, adjust exposure on drain itself, noise ninja, usm, resize, jpg.
And anyone that comments about the brightness - you try shooting bubbles, catch all the tone and not blow out the highlights...I challenge you! Even with HDR and heavy tonemapping I couldn't do it...
Post Challenge: Disappointed with a 5.6. This was a lot of effort, despite the simple shot. I put a lot of thought into it and was hoping for a good finish. There's a lot of stuff higher than me that looks nothing like the original and it makes me wonder whether just submitting any broadly relevant eye candy is the better strategy. Heck, there's not even ANY reference to the original in most of these. |

Nice capture of the appearance of the metal and all those fine bubbles. |

Well done, perhaps a wider shot on the sink. Give the impression of "biggness." |

it was bad when it was submitted, this is better but perhaps some bigger bubbles might have enhanced the shot |

Great focus on the bubbles and good composition. The bw conversion really works well too -- good level of contrast. |

Very nice. Everything is in focus and you can see the drain and bubbles perfectly. I also like the b&w. A well done take on the original |
