Although this isn't my own, I'd like to see what kind of reaction I'm going to get from the voters. Will they vote me down for thinking I'm "mistreating" this dog which they think is mine? Or will they call me out on saying it's not mine? Either way, it's a pet portrait :) This pitbull and her pups were shot from the streets of Nassau, The Bahamas.

The saddest part of this picture to me is that the chain is so short that she can't even comfortably lay down to nurse her pups.

It's an excellent portrait of a mother and her brood, in less than perfect circumstances, yet she seems happy enough to provide nourishment. It makes me stop long enough to wonder where her water bowl is, and whether someone is feeding her as well.

A truly great shot is one that evokes emotion and makes you think. This does both.

I voted this a 7. I would have scored higher except that the vignetting seemed too heavy-handed.

Goodness, all those puppies! Nice composition, I like the saturation level you used here.

Intense maternal emotion portrayed in this image. The whole setting and title is intense "tough", I almost missed the pups. Wow. I'll be thinking about this one later. 10

This is a very powerful and poignant shot to me. The chain, the puppies, the look from the dog. She lives the life she has. The correlation to the people who own her is probably more direct than most would wish to consider.

I think you could crop about two inches off of this and have a great picture. The window is not important and that is what I see first.

looks like a tough life too being chained to such a short one. Good clean crisp sharp all around, I like the negative space and the lightness around her. 10

A belt for a collar... Interesting image, but yes, disturbing.

Whoa....kind of a sobering image after all these happy shots. Very good, albeit slightly disturbing. Great processing and choice of format. 8

I like this. He looks a little evil.

that is so very sad. Poor baby. Talk about an environmental portrait.

Seems like an awfully short chain?! This is a great B&W.

The b/w has certainly helped transform this picture and the chain seems to add a sad note, which makes me wonder what it would be like without it.

Is this your dog? I really hope not, I'm no PETA fanatic but I certainly don't like seeing a dog being chained up with her pups to care for.

That being said, this is a wonderful shot! I understand that art/photography isn't always beautiful and picture perfect and this is a very powerful image. I love the xpression on her face and the composition is perfect. Well done on the shot!

If it is your dog, please take it inside, or atleast give it a collar that fits and use a rope or yard tie instead of a heavy chain to tie her up. I'm sure she's tired enough with about 4 pups to raise......
