Going for an 80's-style car advert look, the limited colour palette, suit-jacket and prominent "futuristic" looking watch, angular to match the hard lines of the car. Hand carefully positioned to cover the speedo, to avoid various issues of contentious viewer reactions - too fast, too slow, mph or kph, etc.
It's obviously rather difficult to control the lighting in a moving vehicle on a public road, and using flashes was not really an option, for safety's sake more than anything else. However, lighting can be controlled very easily simply by choosing a bit of road with exactly the height / spacing /colour of street lights you want. I was going for a setup that would allow a noticeable splash of light on my face in the mirror, and a hint of backlighting to the seat for definition. The red of the seat in the top left gives the image a sportier effect, and balances with the red of the tachometer in the mid right. The slight angle implies leaning into the corner, to make the viewer feel not only forward speed but also a visual implication of sideways force.
Editing: cloning out some dust spots on the windscreen, dodging and burning to enhance contrasts at strategic locations and remove distracting glints from the radio below the frame, resize, sharpen. |
