Taken at a park in South Dakota. I know I know..it is bury and a goose, but I really like it for some odd reason. Wish I could have got him in focus but either way I like it.

vignette of course
converted to b/w
contrast/brightness
resized
sharpened

I like the vignetting and the tones.

I wish the bird was in focus too but something like that works better for fast viewers. When you stop and look a bit longer, you see the motion of the feathers, and also how the curve of the wall kind of supports the bird. Very cool.

Even with the blur, the vignetting looks great and the curvature of the pier adds lots of interest.

That's funny..I would still like to see even more vignetting on your image. I guess it is just a personal preference. I like more of the stark b/w and less gray tones. I do think I might have a bit much vignetting on this shot. I'll have to play with it.

I got tired of playing with my image...so I think it's done...baked and out of the oven. I attribute some of the grayness to...well, it's a shot of gray stuff but the burning that I did to highlight the shadows in the stone may have made it duller. If it becomes a seller, I'll go back to it. Cheers!

Oh no. . .I LOVE the blur. It's perfect just like it is. It gives the bird life and energy. And you cand see plenty of sharp detail in his wings and head. You really caught him in the perfect instant of wing span. So many times when I try to get a bird in flight, their wings are such that they look like a deformed glob of something you want to turn your head away from.

This is good!

I wish you had got him in focus too, but you're right. It does have a an appeal just the way it is. Maybe it's the dark border that adds a touch of something to the flying goose. I like it anyway.

More vignette, less vignette lol. I'm happy as is Soni. The overal composition is nice and compact and the lighting is great, kind of moody and wonder if this would work well as sepia? If you could have got the birds head a little sharper it would have been even nicer (the birds blurred wings should stay).

You'll probably never get a chance to reshoot the same thing but maybe boosting the ISO to (say) 400 would have given a faster shutter speed to get the head sharp.

It works even though it is blurry, the vignette doesn't bother me at all.

There's a sense of the flying bird lording over all the others who are stuck in their lowly water positions. The vignette to me is too strong, but I am not a big vignette person, so take that into account. The part on the left, though, just seems to be forming a brick wall for the poor thing to fly into!

I almost never take advice when someone tells me to change something in a shot, you know "...it would be better if you had" done this or that BUT I actually happened to take your advice on this one and added a light vignette, which I think worked like a charm.

So, on the flip side I would say I'd like your shot better if you'd pull back on the vignette. While you can see the bird in context it seems as though you're ruling out the background for the viewer. I suppose that's fine as it's your choice but why do it to such an extent? Still a nice shot.

No problem from me on the blurred image, it certainly works for me. I like the use of the vignette in this shot.

A strong attraction here is that the lines of the curve in the background keeps leading my eyes right back to that goose.

Well, I can sure see why you like it! The OOF goose is a little bit of a distraction, but love the light reflected in the water. The line of the wall disappearing into your vignette is also nice.
