This was a hard one! Thought of it two weeks ago and was waiting for the right challenge. ORANGE! Perfect. So I went out and bought 10 lemons. Yes, lemons. The lenses are orange and make it look like an orange. The reason for lemon is that it has small core. So I cut these suckers up into the necessary shape (not easy) and placed them on the inside of the lens (filled with water first to avoid air bubbles) then added two seeds. Placed the sweeet looking shades on a piece of glass, three 500W lights with a diffuser in front of them, aligned the polarizer and took pictures from under the glass. Then came the post processing:
NeatImage at full reduction for the plastiky feel; White-end clipping + contrast enhancement + color channel lightness => to reduce background colors to white; More contrast enhancement; Hue and lightness shifts on the yellow and red channels, crop at different angles to remove background stuff.

Funniest shot in the competition. I'd love to know how you did this. Good color, great focus and crop. Sweet lighting too, very silk production.

how did you do this?.. i really like it. great job

Fantastic. I'd love to see an explanation of how this was done. The orange on white is such an eye-pleasing combination of color. This could be in a print ad for oakley sunglasses and I wouldn't think twice as to whether a professional had their had in it's creation. Top notch.

very cool glasses :) i like the way they stand out prominently from the background, tho its a litle bland for my tastes
cool idea with the orange slices... how'd you do it?

This is a blue ribbon winner for sure. I'm curious to see how you pulled off this shot.
03/28/2004 09:29:42 PM
How the hell did you pull that off? Nice one. Looking forward to seeing your comments on it. 10

This might be the only one I'll have time to comment on. Really a fantastic job. Hope you gave some info on how you took this. Were they on a light box?

A little of in my book for not following directions, but still a 6 nonetheless.

cool picture! good luck

Cool photo. Although it looks like you might have phographed slices of orange, or at least a citrus fruit, which I think the challenge rules prohibited. This is one of the better photos here, although I'll have to score you low.

get's a funny point
03/24/2004 06:15:33 PM
I think this one will be at the top. Not sure how you got them "floating" as they appear to be, but the whole thing is wonderful. I like the color, like the composition, and the technical aspect is great.

This is either a fantastic photo or it should be disqualified. If you really got this in one shot and did not have to do massive amounts of PhotoShop to it then it is an amazing shot. It is a great photo in any event, I am hoping that it does meet the basic editing rules as it should do very well
03/24/2004 01:37:58 PM
Clever and creative! 8.
03/24/2004 01:15:05 PM
How did you do that? or do your glasses look like that?
03/24/2004 12:19:50 PM
Too wild....really a fun shot. Love this idea. Congrats to you!! Top three.
03/24/2004 11:19:25 AM

03/24/2004 08:16:41 AM
I need a pair of those! :)
03/24/2004 08:00:35 AM
Very clever but isn't that an orange?
03/24/2004 07:48:49 AM
I am sure that a lawyer would say you broke the rules. As I am just a humble amateur photography I say photo!
03/24/2004 04:13:34 AM
Very Clever Indeed a reflection of an Orange and enough other orange to pull it off. Perhaps a background of citrus leaves... naw overkill... amazing that you got this with 'Basic editing' which killed my entry.
03/24/2004 01:36:12 AM
Funny.
03/24/2004 01:02:18 AM
This is a definite wow shot, very creative, the colors are great definitely meets the challenge, even with the citrus twist, (forgive the pun). 10
