The heating element of my oven... when hot. :-) Cropped to remove as much of the reflection from the oven surface as possible.

Whether out of focus or not - the perception by many is that it is! It's quite useful to note the negatives since, without a description to accompany the shot, you may not be conveying your concept as desired by photography alone.

For what it's worth I think the composition is quite poor leaving much too much black at the top and with no real detail to latch on to. It is orange but that is not enough to make a good shot stand alone outside of the challenge.

Not out of focus. What you see is the reflection of the element in the shiny oven interior. Since spot editing is not allowed, I had to crop out as much as possible and take my chances. The two bumps of orange on the left of the element are where the "foot" is. Thanks for the comments anyway. I did use a tripod (with the 3800 you have to if you are not using the flash) and I doubt that the oven moved. :-)

Good idea. Out of focus, at least on my computer. 7

....it's a little static, but a great image...

Looks like some kind of tool used in a forge for retreiving hot items. Right? Anyway, colour is good. Looks a little fuzzy to me - either out of focus or camera shake. Some cameras have trouble focusing in low light (most cameras). If it's a manual exposure, sometimes a flash light to illuminate while you focus is very helpful. If it's camera shake, use a tripod (how many time have we heard that?) Compositionally I prefer to see the object fill more of the frame. Just personal preference.

While it does meet the challenge, I find that this photo lacks context. Basically, it could be anything. In judging as an abstract photo, the curves of the hot bar are nice and the color is very vibrant. But again, I think more needs to be in this photo to tie it all together.
