This is my oldest daughter Kimberly, we call her Kimber. I got a new 50 mm f1.4 lens and this was and experiment for indoor shooting. It was taken hand held in my kitchen with a minimal amount of natural light and an indirect fluorescent at f1.4 and ISO 100.

I have no idea how I processed this. I processed it in color first and used blending modes and some other features I have never used. Once the color version was saved I converted to B&W using the Channel Mixer -> Color and selected monochrome. After I did that I couldn't tell any differences when I tried to adjust the red-green-blue levels. So I used dodge and burn instead.

Oooooh the 50 1.4 is the next on my list.

Lighting here is beyond excellent, so soft I can't picka fault here! Very nice model, nice gradual background blur too all works well

Kimber is so pretty. I love how you have captured her attitude and the pretty highlights in her hair. You really connect with her looking at this photo.

I have one of those 50mm lenses. I love it too -- but I don't use it much for portraits because I have a hard time getting enough of the photo in focus.

I love the expression on her face - sort of long-suffering. I hope you enjoy the lens as much as I have.

Nice portrait. Very clear on her face but I noticed you've lost the focus on her left shoulder. It doesn't take from the shot at all though. Her eyes keep you focused on her more than anything else. Good job!

This is a very good portrait - very good focus for such shallow DOF (which is something I need to figure out and greatly admire those of you who pull it off.) Tell Kimber she looks quite wise - probably a lot smarter than her dad but at least smart enough not to let him know that. And she has great eyes and an awesome smile. I hope to see more of her in this side challenge, too.

Think I'm number three here that want/like such a lens. Probably because you made a great portrait. Perhaps a portrait size would make it look even better, but I'm not sure about that.

you have a lovely daughter and I want your lens:) I like this portrait but can't help but fee that I would like to see the glasses on the way on, or more tilted down. As they are now they run through the eyes and take away from her, imo.

I have the canon 50mm f1.4 - I love it! And exactly for the reason you show here, you can snap off the photos, no flash, natural lighting. I also like the shallow dof.
