Challenge: Magazine Cover Revisited (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Kodak DX6490
Location: Victoria, British Columbia
Date: Mar 20, 2004
Aperture: 3.20
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Nature, Animals
Date Uploaded: Mar 20, 2004

Increased exposure/brightness slightly. I cropped a piece of leaf behind the heron's beak. Since this magazine looks at issues about the earth in general (human impact on nature, etc.), I decided not do do any other spot editing in order to leave some of the junk in the lake - to show environmental damage juxtaposed with nature.

great exposure, detail, like the muted tones beyound the subject and the foreground guess you used fill flash? great choice it works very well for me in this.

A bit too harsh with the flash.

Nice composition. Looks like you were really close! Not enough light to get a good exposure- contrast is pretty flat. Using a higher ISO setting on your camera could have solved that.

Beautiful shot, and you've provided a space where the magazine logo could go without ruining it.

Lacks contrast, but great subject and composition

A bit more contrast would help. Appears that you used a flash, not sure.

This is one of my favorites! The heron is gorgeous and you got a great close up shot! My ONLY gripe is that the backgound is a bit drab, maybe brighten it up some?

It's not your fault, but for a cover photo I find the debris in the water distracting. This challenge permitted editing, and this photo would fare better if the debris were cloned out.

The front of the foot would have been another point from me.

Beautiful bird, but this looks a little washed out to me? Seems to be lacking in contrast.

Yes! Very fitting, even you left space for the title! I would increase the contrast a little (or saturation) as there is a gray cast. I am sure looks good in your version but my experience is that there is a loss of contrast when pictures are uploaded. But composition is good, subject is very fitting, background is wonderful ... I give it a 9.

Nice idea, but seems underexposed near the bottom 1/3.
