I thought you were going for the bottom score ( the famous brown ribbon) intenetionally given the heavy blur and out of bounds subject matter. Given the fact that I the composition and lighting are quite good I thought you were trying make a low scoring shot, but couldn't make a truly bad photograph because you have a good eye.
Now that I know you weren't shooting for the bottom I'm sorry I was so catty in my first comment. A few peices of advice for future submissions. Read the rules of the contest, and if you are unsure, post up a question to make sure you understand what is and isn't OK. Look at past challenge archives to see what does well here; a tack sharp photo with good lighting no matter how ugly the subject, will do better here than a beautifull picture that is too soft. Remeber no one remembers all the other contemporaries who were concidered better artists than Rembrant or VanGough, stick to what you like and keep doing it. |

The 'nude' category got me chuckling. The orange has indeed been laid bare, albeit with a heavy blur to avoid offending the censors. Had to mark down because it is an orange after all, and the blur was done pretty bluntly. For some reason though, that same blur made it look really delicious, so I didn't mark it down all the way. (have to give credit for eliciting the gut reaction) |

From looking at your entries, you have a lot of potential and a good eye. Please don't get discouraged by this score and I for one will look forward to seeing more of your photography soon. |

Out of focus, and unfortunately rules specifically say, no real Oranges. |

So when the challenge decription said don't use an orange, did you really think a blurry orange (or something that looks like an orange when blurry) would be okay? |

May well win the brown ribbon for last place. I like the shot myself but this is supposed to be a challenge and maybe you did not read the rules or just did not care. ;-) |

Well there are two problems with this one, first it is a photo of an orange, second it is way out of focus. |

Ok.. i'm sure you've noticed how off focus this shot is. Use the macro feature next time. Oh well... :( Its an orange too which was a no-no in the challenge criteria. 1 |

Curious.....why out of focus? Don't think I've ever seen a decent photo that was completely out of focus, so what was your intent here? |

Unfortunately, these look like oranges, which were not allowed in the challenge. Other than perhaps an intentional try to score low, I am not sure what you were going for with the out-of-focus and high jpeg artifacts (too much jpeg compression produces artifacts) |

Well, this one will score really low from me so I'll comment on why. First of all, and most importantly, the rules specifically state to NOT shoot an orange or anything like the orange fruit. I don't know if it was intentioinal, but the focus is way out. Why is there so much space at the bottom of the photo? I think the composition might have been okay if you raised the camera angle to include more of the fruit. I also think the way the lighting highlights the table and the blown out portion of the orange detracts from the shot. I would have preferred a little less light on the right (the highlight is okay, it's just too bright and loses the detail), and more light on the left side to bring out the orange color and the detail of the fruit. I hope this is helpful! |

Was this a deliberate attempt at thumbing your nose at the challenge guidelines? If it was, that's your perogative. You'd would have to be legally blind not to see that it's out of focus; it almost seems intentional. And even though totally out of focus, it looks suspiciously like a member of the fruit family that was stricken from the challenge. If you didn't understand the challenge or are actually legally blind, I apologize. 1 |

Um... if you were purposely ignoring the challenge rules and additionally submitted a very blurry image in an attempt to earn last place, you may have accomplished your goal...! |

blurry and out of focus = bad picture.
read the challenge rules - NO orange fruit or similar fruit - even thought this is badly out of focus, i t looks like an orange slice to me. Not worthy of a 10, 5 or even a 2 |

I don't know if this is meant to be soft focus, but it really looks out of focus. Additionally, if that is an orange, the challenge details clearly stated that no oranges were to be used. |
