Is this really what it appears to be? This is full frame hand held.

This is a macro of the plywood forms' impression on one of the concrete pilings of the Hanalei Pier and not in fact wood.

I understand your idea of positioning this where the sun can cast more of a skimming light on the subject but I need wait for the sun to move since repositioning the Hanalei Pier is next to impossible as the photo here shows. The photo in question here, 'Could it be wood it be', is not a macro of plywood, it is a macro of the plywood impression in the concrete from the forms used to cast the pilings of the pier. Thanks for the suggestion JR.
