Thank you to everyone that left feedback on the pictures.
In response to the all DNMC's, i feel this shot did infact meet the challenge perfectly (pawdrix, i wish i thought of your idea before i posted it). I feel that a portrait can be of any subject, therefore this plane was a valid subject, and its environment, the lonley atmosphere. |

Cool shot and I love teh contrast of the jetwash on the black sky. However, I don't feel this meets the challenge discription of a portrait. |

I'm sure you've heard it all before....?
I think this shot of a Pilot flying his plane meets the Challenge dead on despite all the DNMC's you are getting. The expression on his face is priceless...one of humor, contol and total confidence. I would feel completely safe flying with him behind the controls. Good Luck, 10. |

I like the minimalism and the negative space. But where's the portrait? |

Well done, pleasant to look at, original... Would be close to 10 from me, were I be able to find something in the picture related to the challenge. |

A cool shot, but in my mind this doesn't meet the challenge. Edit - my bad. Apparently the challenge is anything in an environment. I'll adjust accordingly. (Last one was a person specifically.) |

How did you get a perfectly black background on this? If it were night, then we wouldn't see the airplane. |

I love this picture, but would have liked to see it with a closer crop maybe. Good job though! |

Nice take on the challenge. I would have liked it even better if the plane were further away from the center of the pic. |

According to Merriam-Webster, a portrait is: a pictorial representation of a person usually showing the face
I can see this definition possibly being stretched to include animals...but not airplanes. This is a nice photo, but it doesn't fit the challenge at all. |

Unless I'm wrong a portrait is of something living, a person or pet |

I am not sure how this fits the challenge at all. The intent of a portrait, usually, is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. In an environmental portrait, the environment should help define the placement/occupation/status of the subject. |

Neat shot but I don't get how it's an environmental portrait. How did you get the black sky? Great composition. |
