Loved how barren these trees looked - almost like the b&w conversion better than colour! Taken in our favorite hiking area, Assiniboine Forest, in Winnipeg, Mb. It's finally nice enough to stick our noses outside without having to worry about them freezing off! Seriously, with the wind, we had temps as low as -48 only a couple of weeks ago!

Shot was taken in colour, coverted to b&w in pp, levels, cropped, framed and resized for web. Oh, and a faint sepia filter over top to add a little more depth - looked kinda flat to me to begin with.

Love the austere look. VERY nice work IMO.

These trees do look like many I have seen here after our October wild fires...except for the snow part. Very pretty photo, but I agree, it could use a little more contrast.

Good choice for b&w, such a barren feel. I think a boost in contrast could make it pop a bit more but still a nice pic!

Seemingly desolate - wonderful. I'm thinking a bit more 'black' in selective colour may have worked here.

Nice - wasteland feel to it. Excellent BW conversion.

Good choice for B&W here - it seems to support the desolate feel to this shot well. The one diagonal tree trunk in the foregound adds a nice touch as well.

Almost looks as though a forest fire has been through here in the past - now it sits barren and waiting.

Desolate place, the lack of strong contrast gives a gravy look the this place.

I know how you feel about the cold weather..brrrss..we have it here too. Sandyp has it made..she already has butterflies..hahaha.. Love the composition. The broken tree and the nice tall stubs of trees in the background.

Barren really nails it here; I bet this would have done well in Harsh Environments. I like the textures created by the trees and snow.

This is beautiful! The stark barrenness makes such an interesting subject. Photographed and processed to perfection! I love all the texture in the trees, and how it contrasts with the soft grasses and white snow. Amazing photography! Really!

I really like the B&W for this image. It fits the barrenness of the trees well. I also like the deep dof, with everything being in focus.
