I should have entered this in the Harsh environments challenge but thought it was too close to my Fences entry. I saw the storm coming and while driving on a two lane highway in the foothills looking for Fences I saw this little community up on the hill. The clouds were big and low and the light was bouncing around in patches on the hills. I waited around for about 20 min and watched the clouds waiting for the sun to just break through. It was only like this for a few minutes.

PP: Converted to Black and white with a Gradient map and selective color underneath. Lots of dodging and burning of the clouds and a few selective curve adjustments. Not too many dramatic changes, just touched it up. Also rand shadows/highlights to get some more definition in the clouds.
One of my favorites I have taken in a while. :)

That is one intense sky. I really like the dark hill to separate the upper and lower parts. Very good job on the conversion.

Ahhhh. .. another Joe Dannels feast for the eyes and soul. I love the scale and perspective on this one so much. That place looks like such a corner of paradise to live.

Oooh! Very dramatic. Nice B&W treatment to bring out the power in those clouds.

Very nice! The sky is awesome but what really anchors the shot is the houses on the ground. They gives this such a scale to show the ominous magnitude of the storm, quite impressive how mother nature can completely dominate when she wants, nicely captured!

The light on the buildings and just that little bit along the grasses on the road side of the fence are what make this shot for me. Yes the sky is freakin' awesome, but it's what below it that supports that sky. Does that make sense? In a way, it shows the power and awe of nature and the somewhat insignificance but stubbornness of man. Or I could just be in a strangely philosophical mood. :-)

Holy moly, look at that sky. Awesome. And did you lighten up the scene around the house, or did you catch the light at just the right time? Spectacular shot.

those are some insanely cool clouds - and you captured them so exceptionally

i think my favorite bit of the photo is the house lit to provide a focal point for the ground

This has alot going for it, the sky is wonderful, the road leads my eye right into the frame, the reflection off the house really grabs the eye also, great job.
