Yep. A flower. I'm entering another flower. I think I'll be the only one with a flower in either of these challenges, too! Not. Oh, and a cheesy title to go with the flower. Bonus points??

Mostly I'm entering a flower because it was there in my backyard begging to be photographed. Really. It was practically preening, bending this way and that in the breeze, showing off its gorgeous warm vibrant color. So I obliged. Thomas will be very upset if a flower outscores his free study mug from last month. It's one thing to have Emma of the blue eyes beat him out all the time, but a flower? I'll never hear the end of it.

Almost all the editing was done in Lightroom. (Yay me!) I used the color vibrance setting to tone down the reds and oranges - this much red/orange tends to "blow" in saturation. I did a few other minor tweaks but really don't know how to find what I did (I'm open to input on that, by the way.) In CS3 I did a pass with Neat Image, then a sharpen, then a resize and small border.

Post challenge: Thomas is bummed. Good score, but perhaps I should have picked the flower, brought it inside, set up lights, ironed the one wayward petal, and perhaps spritzed it a bit? :-) (Just kidding - pleased it did well. The flower is now but a memory.)

I only stopped in for the mini-essay :P

Anywho, beautiful job of catching the warmth of the tulip. I am soooo ready for spring now! You were joking about the studio lights and all but I tell you I think a flower like this would look amazing against a dark background. Not that I really know what I am talking about. But in my head it looks pretty.

I'm very glad for you that you got a 6+ score!

maybe it is the shape of the front petal but it feels kind of flattened

Lovely. I'd have liked a closer crop (especially at the right) but that's probably the macro fiend in me ;-) Good luck.
